Dialogue Examines Death Penalty in China, Universal Periodic Review of US Human Rights

Dui Hua is pleased to share with you the Fall 2010 issue of our Dialogue newsletter, which focuses on capital punishment in China. In addition to the lead story on proposed reforms that could potentially reduce use of the death penalty, we're releasing results from a year-long effort to record reports of executions carried out in China.
 

In this Dialogue, we also look at the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) being conducted this month in Geneva under the auspices of the United Nations Human Rights Council, and publish excerpts of Dui Hua’s UPR submission (made in April) about areas of human rights concern in the United States. You can read more on our blogs about Dui Hua’s participation in the US UPR, including firsthand observations from Geneva provided by our staff. (In addition, the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights has compiled reports and submissions pertaining to the US UPR.)

Executive Director John Kamm Completes East Coast Speaking Tour

In November, Dui Hua Executive Director John Kamm gave several talks at academic institutions during an East Coast speaking tour. Details and images from some of these events are posted on Dui Hua's Facebook page.

He started the tour at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. His talk, entitled “A Dialogue with China on Human Rights: A Personal Odyssey,” took place on Monday, November 8, at Harvard Law School. Further details are available here. Later that same afternoon, Kamm spoke at Boston University.

Kamm continued his East Coast tour with speeches at Williams College (11/15), Cornell in Washington (11/18), Georgetown University (11/18; details), and the University of Virginia (11/19; details).
